My New Year’s Resolution
It feels like just yesterday I was thinking about my New Year’s resolutions for 2024, and now here we are. Hello, 2025!
Happy New Year to you and your family! Welcome to another nothing but real diary entry.
First off, how are you? Yes, you, the person reading this. I hope your holiday was as sweet and warm as hot cocoa feels at midnight. My only wish for you this new year is that you prosper and, little by little, see your dreams come true.
Me? I’m still riding that New Year’s hangover, not to mention the lechon from our NYE dinner. Days later, and guess what? There’s still lechon in the fridge. Mom says she’ll cook paksiw with the leftovers. Ugh, definitely a crowd favorite! Anyway, enough about lechon (though it is what keeps the holiday happy fats alive for us). There goes my holiday weight, which will probably take me a month or two to work off.
I wouldn’t have made it through 2024 without my friends and family’s support. They’ve been my anchors through every high and low, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them. Now, about New Year’s resolutions. Mine? Honestly, it’s a lot. Losing weight is always at the top of the list, and the end? Probably saying goodbye to junk food and living a healthier lifestyle. But let’s be real, nope, not really! I’m kidding! I don’t know, really… Life isn’t as simple as it was when I was still in school. My younger self’s resolution would have been to do well in my studies and graduate on time. My older self now? To have a successful career, to find a partner who will love me wholeheartedly, to see my family happy and healthy, and, of course, to be financially independent. But these aren’t really resolutions—they’re life goals that almost everybody wants to achieve every year.
Here’s a little secret: I never made resolutions last year. I just kept the faith every day that the things I wished for would happen. Viola, Alpha Line! Now that Alpha Line’s out there, what’s next for me? Honestly, I never thought of that last year. Oh, what 2025 holds for everyone! Hearing other people’s successful resolutions sometimes gets me in my feelings, like I’m supposed to have it all figured out too. They’re the lucky ones, but me? I’m just like the rest. I like challenges (in video games at least), but in real life? Not so much. But here’s what I learned last year: you’ll never fully figure everything out. If you do, doesn’t that make life kind of boring?
Here’s the bottom line: I’m still figuring everything out. If you’re where I am too—feeling like life is more of a work-in-progress than a perfectly drawn plan—that’s okay. This year, I just want to focus on being a better me. No tracking accomplishments by numbers or days achieved. I’ll take my to-do list day by day, balancing what I need and what I want. I’ll simply show up, do my best, and take it one step at a time.
So this year, let us embrace our journey, not just the destination. Here’s to doing our best, trusting the process, and making 2025 a year we’ll be proud of.
I guess this is my New Year’s resolution. What’s yours?
